A Look at Nail Trends Over the Last 50 Years

Nail art has been part of the beauty industry since ancient times, with different civilizations across the world creating unique styles and looks. Fast forward to the present day, and manicures are bigger than ever! In this blog post, we take a look at how nail trends have evolved over the last 50 years, from vibrant colors and airbrushed nails in the 70s to pastel ombre talons and abstract designs of today.

We start with the late 60s and 70s—a time in which colorful acrylic nails were first introduced. As more women became interested in nail art, new techniques and materials began to emerge; think airbrushing, intricate stone embellishments, and foils. The 80s saw a surge of bright neon colors and holographic finishes created with special effects powders.

In the 90s, glamorous French manicures became popular among celebrities like Madonna and Cindy Crawford. This trend continued into the early 2000s with glamorous sparkles being added to create an extra layer of shine. Towards the end of this decade nail wraps also began to take off in popularity as they could easily be applied at home by anyone who wanted to experiment with intricate patterns.

Into 2010 we go—and it’s all about neutral hues on long talons! Popular shapes included coffin or almond tips with gradient ombre shades utilizing pastels or muted jewel tones. Even further into this decade geometric shapes showed up everywhere along with accompanying white stripes which provided an interesting contrast against dark nail polish. One of our favorites was definitely matte black combined with crystalized gems for a modern glam look!

Finally, 2020 brings us abstract art inspired looks that can be created using tools like stamps or decals to create custom designs that range from minimalist lines to elaborate landscapes! What's great about these is that you can get creative without having any necessary skill set—it's why we love them so much!

From disco-fabulous glitter bombs to minimalistic abstract designs, nail trends have come full circle over the last half century! With new tools and products emerging every day it's exciting to imagine what comes next…
