How To Remove Acrylic Nails

How To Remove Acrylic Nails

Items you'll need:
  • Pure acetone
  • Cotton balls
  • Aluminum foil
  • Nail clippers
  • Nail file
  • Cuticle pusher

Step 1: Clip and file your nails

Using the nail clippers, trim your acrylic nails down to a short length. It's best to keep them as short as possible as this will make it easier to remove them later. Use the nail file to smooth down the edges of your nails so they're not sharp or jagged.

Step 2: Apply acetone

Fill a small bowl with pure acetone and soak your nails in the solution for 15-20 minutes. If you don't have a bowl, you can also soak cotton balls in acetone and place them on top of your nails. Wrap each nail with aluminum foil to keep the cotton balls in place and to lock in heat. The procedure will move more quickly since the heat from the foil will make it simpler for the acetone to break down the acrylic.

Step 3: Remove the acrylic

Remove the aluminum foil and cotton balls after 15 to 20 minutes. Gently remove the loose acrylic by pushing it off with a cuticle pusher. You could also use a drill or file here as well instead of a cuticle pusher. To prevent damaging your natural nails, take your time and move carefully and gently.

Step 4: Clean your nails

Rinse your fingers with soap and warm water after removing the acrylic to get rid of any residue. Any rough areas remaining can be smoothed away using a nail file.

Step 5: Moisturize

It is crucial to moisturize after using acetone due to it drying out the skin and cuticles. To keep your nails and cuticles nourished and healthy, massage a small bit of cuticle oil or hand cream into them.
